It’s not quite as simple as “you are what you eat”… Digestion involves a lot more than that.
Remember when I was harping on bone health and calcium?
Some of the most important nutrients for bone health (like calcium) — along with magnesium and protein — have to be digested and absorbed before they can be put to good use in the body.
That means digestion has to be STRONG — we need enough stomach acid, sufficient digestive enzymes from the pancreas, and a solid shot of bile from the liver and gallbladder.
If we’re insufficient in even just one of these — they’re like dominoes — one affects the rest. And the end result is a weak digestive fire.
When digestion becomes weak — this is where malnourishment begins.
We can be eating all the right things….
But if we’re not effectively digesting, absorbing, and getting nutrients past the cell membrane it can’t make a lick of difference.
What does this look like in real life?
Impaired digestion. Reflux. Bloating. Gas. Constipation. Low energy. Hypothyroidism. Autoimmunity. Even plain ol’ aging.
And yes, what this convo started with — weak bones.
It IS possible to get your digestive fire roaring again.
And in fact it’s critical for long term health and being able to THRIVE.
Wondering if your digestion may be weak?
Have you been putting up with any of the above?
This is something I assess in everyone I work one-on-one with in my functional health coaching practice. I’m currently at a waitlist with one or two spots opening up next month.
If you’re interested in getting support or want to turn around your digestion, best thing to do is to schedule a strategy session with me here to get on the waitlist.
