1 cup quinoa : 2 cups water
Note: Quinoa is naturally coated with saponins, a chemical which causes it to have a bitter taste, so it needs to be rinsed before cooking. Also, another reason to rinse is if you’re buying grains in bulk you may be getting dirt or dust along with them from the bulk containers. To remove the coating and any dirt/dust, place the quinoa you’re getting ready to prepare in a bowl and cover with water. Mix it around with hands, the water will become murky. Using a fine mesh strainer, drain quinoa and rinse. Repeat steps, until the water is no longer dirty. Now you’re ready to cook.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup quinoa
- 2 cups water
- pinch sea salt
Directions:
In a medium sauce pot, bring 2 cups of salted water to a boil. Add quinoa and cover. Reduce heat and simmer 15-20 minutes. Quinoa is done when all of the water is absorbed. To test, tip pot to the side a bit to see if any water comes up. If not, then you can stir.
