There’s a pandemic within the pandemic…. actually a few…
I’m so tired of the sides.
It feels so THIS or THAT.
Either you’re for masks or against.
For vaccines or against.
For lock downs or against.
We all know it’s so much more complex than that.
But this is how things come across in the media — in the news, on social, etc.
It’s always the most extreme views that get heard.
Those of us that can see things both ways, that fall somewhere in the middle — our views get lost in the noise.
They don’t make for good 10 second sound bites.
And they don’t get picked up by algorithms.
And so — in all that noise, it’s really easy to forget that being in the middle is OK — more than that, that the middle is a healthy, rational, and normal place to be.
It feels like we have to choose a side.
That it’s one or the other.
That it’s black and white.
Our rational-thinking middle-ground mind knows that this is not true…
It’s our hypnotized inner five year old that goes all glassy-eyed in front of the TV (or iPhone) that we gotta snap back to reality….
And in reality we NEED both sides.
We need solid public health measures on a large scale. Masks when they’re needed. Vaccines for those that can get them. Social distancing when necessary.
AND we also need to take this pandemic for the wake up call that it is and make ourselves as resilient as possible.
There’s a pandemic within the pandemic — and that’s what’s made this novel virus so devastating.
Chronic “lifestyle” disease is the new infectious disease (6 out of 10 adults have a chronic disease; it’s estimated by 2025 8 of 10 children will, too).
And to make matters worse our diagnostic tools (ie. lab work) lag too far behind. Most of these disease processes (ie. diabetes and even pre-diabetes) develop over yearrrrssss (like 10+).
If the right labs aren’t run though (or covered by insurance), you’d never know… until it’s bad enough to diagnose.
And this is where we are today.
So what we get is more of the status quo…
Treat the symptoms.
The problem with that is tho… it’s only a matter of time until the next pandemic….
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it…
You have more power over your health than you’ve ever been led to believe.
I know this with every fiber of my being.
And right now it is my mission to make sure you know it too.
